September 2015

The North Bay Youth Volleyball Club (NBYVC) –LAKERS, is pleased to announce that Jerry Grabiec is the new  Head of Coach and Player Development.  He will also be the head coach of the club’s U15 girl’s team.  Coach Grabiec started coaching at the NBYVC five years ago.  He previously coached with the Pakman club where he attained a National Championship.  Coach Grabiec has earned a wealth of knowledge through his coaching experience as well as his 2 years spent with the University of Toronto Men’s Volleyball Team.  Coach Grabiec will work closely with Coach Marc Larochelle, who is the present Head Coach of the Nipissing University Women’s Volleyball Team, and Eric Yung, who is the present Head Coach of the Nipissing University Men’s Volleyball Team, to provide an athlete centered environment focused on player development.

“I’m looking forward to this new position. The club’s objectives will be focused on Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD).  We want to teach our younger kids the proper fundamentals and teach them from a young age how the game is played at a higher level.  For our older kids, we want them to focus on preparing them for playing at the University/College level”. (Jerry Grabiec)

The North Bay Youth Volleyball Club has an energetic group of coaches who each have experience as both players and coaches at the University level.  The list of coaches includes; Gerry Dupelle, Dave Hudson, Cam Hudson, Mason Truswell and Jamie Vanderzande.
The North Bay Youth Volleyball Club have 20 club players that have gone on to play at the post secondary level, which includes 3 presently playing for the Nipissing University LAKERS Women’s Volleyball Team and 6 playing for the Canadore College PANTHERS Volleyball Team.

The Club would also like to welcome Steve Sproule as the new President of the North Bay Youth Volleyball Club – LAKERS.  Steve served as the Club’s Vice-President for the 2014/2015 season.  Steve has proven to be dedicated toward the growth of the club and its player development program.  Steve will be replacing outgoing president Greg Randall.  The Club would like to thank Greg Randall for his 7 years of excellent service.  Greg invested countless hours into the club and it has shown over these last several years with the success of the club and its teams.   He will remain on the executive for the upcoming year as the Past President.

“We have a great group here!  We have talented athletes, and coaches, that are both passionate and dedicated to the sport of volleyball.  I’m excited! This is a great club and an unbelievable facility to be able to train in on a weekly basis. I’m truly looking forward to the continued success of this club, and its players in the upcoming 2015/2016 season”. (Steve Sproule)
